Southland Stuff

Hey everyone!
Sorry for the length between posts. We are now working in a clinic in Invercargill, so on a weekend off we ventured out to towards Riverton area. First we went to the Southern Journeys museum. It was interesting to learn about how people came to Southland, it was pretty depressing learning about the whaling in the area and how us bad humans almost extincted the Southern Right Whale. Strangely enough I can't find any of the pictures from it so you will just have to go without. Instead here are some pictures of cows.

These next set of pictures are from Gemstone Beach where we went to look for...gemstones! Apparently if you know what you are looking for you can find sapphires, garnets and others.

After that we drove to Monkey Island to camp for the night. We watched the sunset, it was lovely.

The next morning we drove out to Dean Forest to do the "Big Totara" walk. What the walk lacked in originality for a name it made up in natural beauty. There were countless 1000 year old Totara trees and lots of birds singing in the trees. I will always remember New Zealand this way, and I hope it stays like that for a long time to come.

And thus concluded our little weekend out in Southland

Until Next Time!
