Beer and Wine

Hey Guys. This will be the last blog of today’s onslaught and should bring you right up to speed on what we have been up to. As Roberta has mentioned, we have not had a planned route at all and it shows with the overlapping we seem to keep doing. After our Golden Bay trip, we headed back towards Blenheim planning to do a winery tour with our bikes. We arrived in Blenheim on Friday and did some running around town where we found out that there was a little music festival on Saturday known as Blues, Brews, and BBQs. So our loose plans changed once again when we decided we should attend.

We stayed at a Holiday Park at Spring Creek that night that was a few kilometers outside of Blenheim.

Their "pet" eels in the creek.

On Saturday, we made our way into town on our bikes, grabbed the tickets from the I-site, and headed to the A & P Park where the event was taking place. We definitely felt like the coolest people there cruising in on our bikes, since we were the only ones doing so....We are leaders not followers and I’m sure we just started a trend. Ya right. Upon presenting our tickets we received our cup on a string that is used to get the brew you so desire. A good way of decreasing the amount of trash. There was a number of breweries there and plenty of different types of beer to try which we tried to take advantage of.

It was a nice to take in some live music while doing our daily routine of drinking beers and eating BBQ food. It is quite a hard life we live these days.

On Sunday morning, we headed to Renwick to do the bike winery tour we had intended to do on Saturday. We decided to go there as there were more wineries concentrated together without having to bike too far in between. Wouldn’t want to get too much exercise in between wineries.

I definitely learned a lot more about wine. As the day went on we got more and more “educated” and really started having fun with the servers describing the different tastes we were experiencing with each different wine. It was really hard to keep a straight face through it all. The descriptions they use on the taste lists were honestly hilarious. How you can get a wine that is “full of body with hints of stone-fruit ending with mocha nuances” is beyond me. Like what does that even mean. I’ll leave that to the wine connoisseurs out there to decide because in the end you either like it or you don’t.

After pretending to T-bone each other with our bikes in the parking lot later in the day, we were told quite seriously by a Dutch couple that we did not have to drink every wine we tasted. They might as well have been speaking Dutch as this was a concept I could not understand.
All in all, it was another great day and we got back to our campsite unscathed. Definitely going to do some more wine touring after that experience.

Today we made the drive from Renwick down the coast to Kaikoura. It was a really beautiful long the coast with a couple cool stops to see some seal colonies and what not.

We are looking forward to touring around with my parents in about a week’s time and then touring around with Eyvi and Stacey. Until next time.......
