The W trek continued

Of course I said yes!
It was such a beautiful setting, we were in a bowl of glaciers, mountains, and Lenga forest in all its fall colour-changing glory. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and that was before we even got engaged! Now I will remember it forever.

This is my ring, three strands of different coloured grass braided together. Jared has a real ring waiting for me in Canada, but I really love the grass ring!

So many great views!

How many different poses can I strike showing off my left hand?!

Looking down the valley as we walked down

As we walked down, we saw snow avalanches coming off the glaciers. I took it as a good omen that one really huge one crashed down as we were walking down.

That night we walked to our next camp, and here we are toasting our engagement over boxed wine and this beauty sunset.

Here we are the next morning, walking along the lake, catching a great sunrise. We had started really early because this was such a long day, 8.5 hrs of hiking! But it was really great to enjoy the quiet of the morning, I guess this is why people get up early.

This beach along our walk was so beautiful, the white and black pebbles all along the beach, that reflection, the sky. Too much neatness in one place!

The Cuernos (the horns)

A dome! I really want one of these when I grow up

Sometimes you just have to get a shot of the trail, and the awesome 'wizard stick' I picked up at one of the campgrounds. It served me well, and probably made me look really cool. Probably.

This was a long day. This shot is of Jared trying to power through his ouchy knee, which had started bugging him on the first night (uh-oh), but we had been able to keep at bay with NSAIDs and carrying less weight.

So much longer......but a great view!

A little after this shot we made it to the last campsite of the W. It was a beautiful day (they were all so great!), but I was glad to see the campground.

That's one of the Torres peeking out!

We had a great night, cooking and chatting with our fellow hikers. One of our newly made friends even shared some of his whiskey with us to toast our engagement, a high compliment when you think about how long he had been carrying it around for!

Here we are the next morning, just before sunrise. We had hiked up in the dark (only 45 minutes), and found a cozy rock to lay out our sleeping bag on and make tea. What a great place for a cup of tea!

The moon hadn't set yet, and the light was just starting to hit the towers. Fantastic

Awwwweee. Look at us.

For 20 awesome minutes the towers glowed red, it was really something to see. Sometimes I struggle to totally convey in words on the blog some of the things we see, this is really one of those times! Sorry, I will work on my English language skills.

It was really something to see these guys at sunrise.

Here is the pink and purple vet wrap that helped Jared through the trek, and he looked so cool as an added bonus. He did wear pants, usually. Just saying.

A fallen tree that people placed rocks onto, a really cool variation on a cairn, I thought.

Walking back down the valley, enjoying the time in the bush.

Fox!

Horses!

Me when I had to abandon my wizard stick. We left it at the start of the trail, hope somebody enjoyed it as much as I did.

We hitch-hiked back to our vehicle, and it was such a great feeling- finding a hitch so fast, the W successfully completed, having enjoyed it so much- and most of all engaged! It was a very productive 5 days, plus we had hiked 100 kms.

It got a bit dusty after this guy passed us, but check out those towers in the background!

Guanaco posing beside the towers

Bye Torres del Paine!

This place will forever be in my memory

Until Next Time!
