Santiago 2

So where was I?
After Cerro San Cristobal we went to a sculpture park, mostly for the leisurely stroll but also to look at weird sculptures.

We also ended up practising our handstands, and in the background you can see the Costanera Centre, the tallest structure in Latin America.

Heading back that afternoon, we accidentally hit the metro at rush hour. The experience of being pushed into the metro that I wanted to have in Tokyo, ironically happened here!

This guy was awesome, glued to the wall and still waving

Another squished guy

This was on a different day, but we had bought a bunch of camping equipment and my Uber app wasn't working, so we had to take the metro back. Good thing it wasn't rush hour!

We also visited the Museo de Bellas Artes, which was in a beautiful historical building

This is how Jared appreciates art

There are so many street performers in Chilé, we have seen so many interesting and hilarious things while crossing the streets.

Here are some pics of the view we had from the roof top patio where we were staying. Did I mention this was at a Couchsurf? We are 2 for 2 on amazing CS experiences.

Another fun day trip was to Viña Aquitania, a winery just outside the city. They are a small producer, about 200,000 bottles per year.

The road into the winery

I learned a fun fact that white wine is fermented without the skins, whereas with red wine they squish the grapes, and ferment the juice with the skins in there too. They also have to stir the vats every day to get the skins down and prevent a crust from forming on top.

They also have to keep the barrels full of wine with no air in there, so they use one barrel to donate small amounts to all the other barrels, and that donor barrel gets sealed with nitrogen gas!

Hydrangeas, my fave

The labels on the bottles here were placed by hand, and a bottle was still going for about $7 cdn, what a country!!

The little garden where we did our tasting

I wanted a nice selfie of the vines and the Andes in the background, and this is what I got

One of the last days we were in Santiago we climbed the Manquehue hill, which was about 2 hrs up. It was so dry and arid, such a change from hiking in Brasil!
We had a great view over Santiago once we were at the top.

A pic with José, one of the guys we were couch surfing with, and his friend

Once we had all the paperwork handled and the supplies bought, we hit the road in our sweet new ride, more of that in the next blog.

Until Next Time!
