We're baaack......

So it has obviously been a while since our last blog post. We had been working in Swift Current at a mixed animal practice since we returned from New Zealand. It went very well but the travel bug got ahold of us once again. There will be a bunch more posts as we travel around South East Asia for the next 5 months.

Our first flight of the trip was a bright and early one at 6 am from Winnipeg to Chicago. It was bitterly cold and we weren't bringing any winter clothes for our trip so we had to make a run for it to the cab and into the airport. Roberta was quite stylish as usual, sporting purple socks and sandels.

Our next flight was from Chicago to Tokyo. Things got delayed because they forgot to start fuelling up the plane on time and then they had to de-ice the plane. Shouldn't they know that we had to travel 10 000 kms and that takes quite a lot of fuel!?! The problem was we were sitting on the tarmack the whole time while this was going on, so that added another 1.5 hours of sitting on the plane with 12.5 hours of flight time to go. Our connection from Tokyo to Bangkok was only 1:45 mins apart from the original arrival time so we knew that there may be trouble in Tokyo catching that flight.

As you can imagine it was a long flight. I find it nearly impossible to get comfortable in a plane for that long. My legs and butt fell asleep on 5 different occasions but my brain didn't allow the rest of me to sleep. We were sitting with a bunch of guys from Winnipeg that were also headed to Bangkok. The flight attendants could not give us any information on our connecting flights.

We arrived in Tokyo at 6 pm local time and we knew our flight was supposed to leave at 615.  We soon discovered that they were not holding back the plane for us and we were scheduled on another flight that left At 11:45 am. To make matters a bit worse, United Airlines were not covering the cost of hotel rooms because they said it was a unforeseen weather delay. This caused some people to lose their minds as it was a blatant lie. The pilot had even apologized earlier on the plane because it was their fault we were delayed. There was plenty of people yelling at the United Airlines workers but we didn't feel the need to join in.

We decided to get a hotel room anyways to have a shower and recharge the batteries. Much to my surprise most people could speak English. My biological clock was a bit off so I awoke at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep, but it allowed me to figure out this whole blogging deal again

The next day we jumped aboard the flight to Bangkok aboard Thai Airlines. The plane had much more class than United Airlines. We touched down in Bangkok around 7 hours later. Finally made it!

This blog was a little warm up to get me back into the groove. I promise the next ones won't be so "wordy" and will have pictures and videos. For those of you on Instagram you can follow us at @jaralawat & @rkt543 for other pics and vids. Cheers
