Detour to NYC

Hey Guys!
We are back in business, heading to South America for an extended backpacking trip. Not sure how long we'll be down there, but the plan is to see some things on our South America bucket list: Amazon, Rio/Carnival, Iguazu Falls, Patagonia, Macchu Picchu, Galapagos and whatever other gems we can pick up along the way.
So you may be wondering what the title is all about then if the goal was to make it to Lima, Peru by this time tonight. We got weather delayed and missed our flight this afternoon (by minutes I might add), and so we decided to stay the night in Newark, NJ rather than trying some ridiculous scheme to get to Lima on a red eye. We could also make the best of a bad situation this way and take the train in to see the Big Apple- New York City. I had been here about 4 years ago with a friend (hi Megz), and had a blast, so I was super pumped for Jared to see it.
The first thing we did when we got off the train in Penn Station was to start walking for Times Square. NYC has been in so many movies, so when you get out on the streets it's immediately so familiar while still being foreign.

Times Square- so bright, sensory overload- it's too awesome!

I looove hot dogs, especially these babies

We continued walking down Broadway and ended up at Columbus Circle and the base of Central Park.

We headed back south on 5th Ave and gawked at all the REAL fancy stores.

St. Patrick's Cathedral

There were news crews camped outside Trump Tower, just waiting (I assume) to see if the President Elect would come in or out. Such a bizarre situation- but I quickly forgot all about that when we went a little further down the street to the Rockefeller Centre and saw the Christmas tree was still up!!! I was so happy I squealed out loud.

This was Saks Fifth Ave and it was blaring Home Alone music while the lights did a sequence. Jared was loving it.

The Chrysler Building

Empire State Building

After that we were pretty exhausted, as we had been walking around for almost 4 hours. We have to get back into backpacker shape where you walk EVERYWHERE, usually with packs on.
Tomorrow we fly to Lima.....hopefully!
Until Next Time😊
